Wolverine RMax 1000 is here!

Wolverine RMax 1000 is here!

Everything you want to know all in one place.

Thank you for reading about the new RMax2 and Rmax4 here on Yammer Hammers. We know you are looking for the feature sets and pictures so we will get right to the point. Check back with us over the next few weeks as we put the Yammer Hammers RMax through its paces, and compare it to the Wolverines, the YXZ, how it compares and differs between them.

Model Lineup:

Suspension

If you are anything like me, the first features you want to hear about are the suspension. All RMax’s come equipped with FOX 2.0 QS3 suspension. We love the QS3’s because they are simple to adjust with no tools. The LE variations have the FOX iQS system where you can adjust your suspension on the fly with a simple push of a button to make it even easier.

RMax 2 boasts a class leading 16.9″ of travel in the rear with 14.2 up front giving the RMax2 an impressive ground clearance height of 13.8 inches. Thanks in part to its 30x10x14’s on all four corners. Maxxis Carnivores wrap the XTR and LE models while an all new Dirt Commander specifically made for the RMax2 finds it way home on the Alpine white and Armor Gray.

RMax4 loses a touch of rear travel to the rear seating configuration, and comes in at 13.3 on the rear and 14.2 on the front for suspension travel. We keep the same 13.8 inches of ground clearance in the RMax4 with 29’s in a more traditional staggered setup. Yamaha went with an all new Maxxis Carnage tire here across the RMax4 line.

Wide arc A arms and anti sway bars on the front will give you a confident driving experience in any environment. The RMax4 also has an anti sway bar in the rear. For the suspension geeks out there, here are some spring rate numbers.

Power Train

The single biggest comment we heard at Yammer Hammers, and Wolverine Nation was people looking for that 1000cc powerplant. In true Yamaha form, they delivered. With a class leading 1000cc twin engineered from the ground up. All of that power mated to the awesome Ultramatic CVT with a 10 year belt warranty means this is one machine you can depend on for years and miles to come.

All new for 2021, we see the 3 position D mode switch. This optimizes the power delivery in any terrain. Sports mode is for wide open trails and spirited driving, where Trail mode is perfect for fun trail riding and a little more engine braking. Crawl mode is for those tight technical trails and gives you full engine braking. Somewhere like windrock, or some of the more technical stuff in Hatfield is where we are going to test this mode.

Interior

Interior on most machines in the market almost seems like an afterthought. We are convinced Yamaha started with the interior and built a machine worthy of the interior. From the soft touch accents to the inlaid shift and parking brake levers to the stitched seats you think you are in a luxury vehicle, not a SXS.

Adventure Pro built into the dash is something I wanted to see since the AP came out. They delivered amazingly. Combine this with the 11 locations for standard carling style switches and you know whoever designed this interior thought of everything. I know what you are thinking, and yes, the AP still pops right out, and is now key lockable which is a feature I love.

It doesn’t stop there, the LE models have a built in SSV stereo system with door speakers in pods that is a simple upgrade for the non LE machines, but we love they threw it in for the LE models.

Ingress and egress of the vehicle is easier now with 63% larger opening door way and moved latches, as well as changing the angle of the throttle and brake pedals and even giving us the T style adjustable grab bar we love. Someone you ride with vertically challenged? take a look at the 6 way adjustable seat belt straps.

Backlit switches for once. While they don’t come in the base model RMax2’s you can add them just the cost of the switch.

Accessories

Everyone wants to know how to add accessories and wire up their own devices etc. Here is what we know so far.

It has 4 Accessory ports under the firewall the like X2/X4 as well as the 4 pin reverse trigger that goes to the rear of the machine. However, in all RMax vehicles they have the X2 tail lights with reverse! One things we wish we saw on the X4’s and it has been addressed here.

Cargo boxes for RMax is the same as the cargo boxes for the X2/X4 so your dealer should already have them in stock.

SMS (speed management system) comes in all RMAX4 and the RMAX2 LE but you can add it to any RMAX that doesn’t have it just by buying and installing the switch.

Our Conclusion:

Yamaha hit a grand slam. This machine is everything we have been wanting, and is truly the off road capable woods machine we have needed on the east coast for years. It does everything well on paper. I am sure my expectations will be exceeded when we get some time in the saddle. Well done Yamaha. Well Done.
